Their Voice: A community run brings hope to those with mental illness

There are several reasons why people in our community participate in the various 5K races throughout our valley. Some are avid runners and looking for the medal or prize. Others join in just to be part of their community or to provide an activity for the whole family.
Then there are those who participate because of the cause behind the event. They are not interested in the medals, the prizes, even becoming more physically fit, but instead want to support something they believe in.
I expect that the runners or walkers who are signing up to attend the Wasatch Wellness Run will be participating for all of those reasons, but some specifically to provide financial support to the Wasatch House. The Wasatch House is a certified Clubhouse program that offers a strengths-based approach where treatment, vocational training and support are provided to individuals with mental illness to help them retain social skills, vocational skills and psychiatric stability.
